Thank you!!!!

We all loved the goodies you sent.
The Challahs traveled very well, everyone was a huge fan.
The Ruggallah was another huge hit, as well as the Giant uncut Rugallahs.
We still haven’t dug into the Honey loaf and the Kokash, but they both look delicious.
The cookies got slightly crushed but were still nice.Chanukah in Iraq

Chanukah Trivia Answers & Winners List

Chanukah Trivia Answers & Winners List

Night 1: What is the most popular spelling of the word Chanukah?

The most popular spelling is Chanukah! In Google, this spelling is searched for at least 3 times more than any other spelling. The runner up in popularity was the spelling Hannukah. A distant third was Hanuka, then Hanukah, Chanukah in successive order. Interestingly, the Merriam-Webster Dictionary’s standard spelling, “Hanukkah,” came a distant 9th.

Winner: NONE All the right responses came in after the question closed. (But really great attempts! Keep trying and hopefully you can win another night!) You will have another chance to win the Menorah!

Night 2:  What is the origin of Chanukah Gelt?

Winner: Jharbel, who receives 2 boxes of Chocolate Gelt (choice of bittersweet or milk chocolate).

See Jharbel’s  answer.

Another explanation of the gelt custom is related by Rabbi Dovid Cohen:

“The Talmud states that even a very poor person must light Hanukah lights, even if he can’t afford it. A person with no money is required to go ‘knocking on doors’ until he collects enough to buy at least one candle for each night of Hanukah.”

“The Torah concept of charity - tzeddakah - requires us to help the recipient in the most dignified manner possible. Therefore, the custom arose to give gifts of money during Hanukah so that someone who needs extra money for Hanukah candles can receive it in the form of Hanukah gelt.”

This answer was corroborated by the Magen Avraham on Wikipedia, and originally found the answer here:
